East Village

While walking through Alphabet City in East Village, NYC, I came across these lovely advertising murals. In a neighborhood that's known for its alternative character these Vans ads blend in perfectly. In times of advertising 2.0 bloat, mobile ad platforms galore, SEM etc. it's almost unthinkable a company goes back a few hundred years to unnovate. But that's exactly what Vans did.

The look and copy fit perfectly with the product they're trying to sell: a classic, allegedly "The original since 1966". If you happen to be in New York City, make sure you stop by the corner of E 2nd Street and A Avenue.

THIS IS THE ERA.

UPDATE: The murals were painted by a company called Colossal. Make sure you check out some of their other projects in New York City.
